Residents living near Arapahoe High School or Smoky Hill High School may need a parking permit to lawfully park on the street in residential areas within Centennial.

The process for creating a residential parking permit district was established by Ordinance No. 2004-O-12 in response to residents living near a high school being unable to park in front of their homes while school is in session.

For the Arapahoe High School parking permit district, a permit is required to be displayed on any vehicle parked on a street in the district during the school year Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.  For the Smoky Hill High School parking permit district, a permit is required to be displayed on any vehicle parked on a street in the district at any time (every day of the year, any time of the day).  The owner of a vehicle parked on a street in a parking permit district not properly displaying a parking permit during the time the parking restriction is in effect may be issued a traffic citation.
