The City evaluates requests for new signs and inspects existing sign condition and functionality.

Stop SignThe City replaces faded, damaged or vandalized signs and maintains signs by straightening posts that are leaning and trimming vegetation around signs that may cause safety issues.

As part of the City’s annual sign inspection program, the Public Works Department inspects approximately 4,000 signs in predetermined areas each year to identify signs that have faded, no longer meet the minimum nighttime reflectivity requirements or that require other maintenance. With more than 20,000 signs in the City, this program allows the inspection of each sign once every five years.

The sign inspection program also includes the replacement of the old green street name signs with the new blue signs that have been adopted.
